All My Geese are Swans
we begin to say that Nepal is a poor country and she is an underdeveloped country in the world. She is small too. Indeed, she is small if we compare her to the biggest countries in the world but at the moment she is bigger than other small countries. Big and small do not have any sense unless we compare them to other. No single word can have meaning in isolation. To have meaning of a word, it needs other words to make it meaningful.. Why do we nepalese seem to be backwards to others? Are we really backwards or it is due to something beyond it?
If we compare our life style to the modern technology, indeed we are backward. But at the moment if we judge ourselves being calm and through philosophical judgement, we are far better than the modern science. What I learned in my childhood has left a deep impact in my psyche. We were taught not to eat old-day food when we do Chudakarma. Without bathing, no food was allowed to eat. Before eating, eating uniform must be put on. Before eating, washing of hands , feet and body was compulsory. We may be superstitious to someone but we don’t think how scientific it was and still is to follow this tradition.
Is Nepal really a poor country? Indeed not. How can she be poor? What she doesn’t have? She has good and fertile landscape, natural beauties, people of various castes and culture, tradition and flora and fauna as well as water resources. She has everything that a nation needs but the politics of various ‘ism’ and the concept of ‘all my geese are swans’ is the cause that has led Nepal backwards in the modern technology. Therefore, the concept of patriotism and the ego inside leaders and only the blaming to others are the root cause. Political changes does nothing unless people are aware of their rights. Political changes give opportunities only to the politicians and white plates riders who forget their identities and misbehave to their masters.
Masters are the voters but not the leaders. Masters are the general public but not the bureaucrats. They neglect their duties and responsibilities and blame to the general public. They forget that they are up starter through corruption. They blame to India and China. Is it good? Indeed not. Blaming to our neighboring country is the weakness of the present political leaders. They should have their own voice for the sake of Nepal and Nepalese. If these leaders raise voice for the sake of Nepal, they will be compelled to listen the voice. We should not measure the size of a nation and its population but we should judge them differently. Nepalese shouldn’t forget that a small ant will be the cause of death of an elephant , a scorpion can kill a snake.
What differences can we realize or feel between the ex-king Gyanendra and present political leaders. No difference is there. How Gyanendra used to come out of the palace so do present leaders. Nepalese are not expecting the change of person but the way of their service. If a leader gets sick, he gets a huge amount for his treatment but a poor doesn’t get citamol to get release from fever. There must be change in attitude and the service the government provides. Corruption while appointing ambassadors or IGP or the case of chief justice have been questionable to the present leaders. They have to forget that ‘all my geese are swans’ but must realize that they are servers but not masters. Masters give but the servers do service. If they disobey to their master they will sack them soon.
